**Clocking Out**

Looking for a long read on the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that has overhauled Meta in recent years?

Reuters caps off its years-long series on Meta’s AI investments and employee layoffs with a [deep dive](https://www.reuters.com/investigations/mark-zuckerberg-had-bold-plan-replace-meta-staff-with-ai-heres-how-it-imploded-2026-08-26/) into Project OT (for “Organizational Transformation”). That’s the internal shorthand for Meta’s plan to greatly reduce headcount while offloading services to agentic tech. (The initiative follows Meta’s *last* major overhaul-gone-bust, when it went all in on the metaverse.)

The story will ring painful bells for Meta advertisers, who felt the platform’s customer service slip as account services were handed off to AI.

Individual advertisers have lost millions and even tens of millions of dollars when Meta’s ad platform [glitches out or misappropriates campaign budgets](https://www.adexchanger.com/data-driven-thinking/theres-a-lot-wrong-with-google-and-metas-non-transparent-refund-practices/) – and countless billions of dollars have evaporated overall in the past four years. Advertisers [aren’t even informed](https://www.adexchanger.com/mobile/how-meta-has-or-hasnt-responded-to-a-major-account-overspend-error-two-weeks-later/) when glitches devour their budgets. There are no people left to inform them. Agencies that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on Meta can only turn to a useless chatbot that asserts all is well.

You might also recall, in 2022, some Meta employees were [quietly fired for accepting cash kickbacks](https://www.adexchanger.com/online-advertising/metas-ad-platform-glitches-spur-q4-angst-and-a-customer-service-fee-scheme/) from advertisers simply to have normal customer service tickets seen to. That’s probably not what Meta had in mind when it comes to AI creating new revenue streams.

**Ask And You Shall Receive**

Every tech company these days seems to be developing a centralized AI interface. Next up: The Trade Desk.

TTD’s new agentic system, called “Ask Koa,” serves as a “single conversational entry point to a range of AI agents,” per [Adweek](https://www.adweek.com/media/exclusive-leaked-deck-outlines-the-trade-desks-agentic-plans-for-h2-2026/). The agentic chatbots handle different parts of the programmatic workflow, like audience building, optimization and generating campaign insights.

According to a leaked product road map obtained by Adweek, the “Ask Koa” interface will move from alpha to closed beta this week, with plans to expand further in the coming months.

Another key feature of the road map is a frequency capping tool that automatically adjusts how often a person sees an ad based on the brand’s performance data and campaign pacing.

After a less-than-enthusiastic reception to the shift to Kokai, TTD needs to win back customer trust. Not to mention winning back customers themselves after many advertisers purportedly shifted some of their programmatic budgets [to Amazon DSP](https://www.adweek.com/media/marketers-move-millions-ad-spend-the-trade-desk-to-amazons-ad-platform/).

“A large majority of the input to our product runway process comes from customer feedback,” says Eric Bosco, TTD’s VP of product management.

**Reduce, Reuse, Restructure**

USA Today Co. is the latest in a long line of publishers – including Time and The Economist – restructuring its content for AI bots.

The new formatting will make it easier for AI systems to process and cite USA Today’s content, Kara Chiles, SVP of product management, tells [Digiday](https://digiday.com/media/usa-today-co-is-reformatting-content-to-attract-more-ai-licensing-deals/), and is part of the publisher’s larger GEO strategy. USA Today has a strict whitelist of approved crawlers, and all others are blocked by default.

These changes won’t have much of an impact on human site viewers; in fact, said Chiles, most of the modifications won’t even be visible to humans. Rather, she said, “it’s a lot of the infrastructure, the metadata, how we’re actually structuring our formats and templates to be as discoverable for AEO and GEO.”

But the exact formats haven’t been determined yet. USA Today is still in the process of testing which content performs best among crawlers.

Ultimately, the pub’s goal in revamping its content structure is to strike more licensing deals with trusted AI companies and provide more value within its current deals.

Chalk it up as more proof publishers are increasingly tailoring their content to bots, not just humans.

**But Wait! There’s More!**

Meta agrees to pay up to $18 billion over 10 years to 48 states to settle a federal lawsuit alleging its social media platforms harm children and teens. With the settlement, which is the single largest-ever Big Tech legal payout in history, Meta admits no wrongdoing and avoids a potential $200 billion penalty.
