Cursor made coding agentic. Here is what that looks like for video: you say the edit, an agent performs it on a real timeline, and your footage never leaves your Mac.
Somewhere in 2025, coding changed shape. You stopped typing every line and started saying what you wanted; an agent in Cursor or Claude Code did the typing, and you reviewed the result. People started asking the obvious question: where is this for video?
The phrase they reach for is "Cursor for video editing." Descript calls its version vibe editing. Whatever the name, the idea is the same: describe the edit in plain language, and an agent performs it. Not a filter that runs on your clip. An editor that works.
What "agentic" actually means here #
An agentic editor is not a chatbot bolted onto a video player. The difference is tools. When you tell klo "cut the dead air," the agent reads the transcript, finds every silence, splits the clips in real word gaps, ripple-deletes the gaps, and then re-checks its own timeline for mistakes. That is 83 distinct tools it can reach for: splitting, trimming, grading, captioning, composing music, re-speaking a flubbed line in your own voice.
The result lands on a real timeline. You can drag any cut it made, because they are real cuts. Every edit is one undo away. That is the test worth applying to anything calling itself agentic: can you open the timeline and disagree with it?
Why most of them live in a browser tab, and why that hurts #
Almost every agentic editor today is a web app. That means your footage uploads before anything happens, long files hit browser memory ceilings, and a 20 GB ProRes shoot is simply out of the question. The most upvoted comment under one of the big agentic editor launches this year said it plainly: people are tired of editing heavy media in the cloud.
klo took the other road: a native macOS app. The agent runs against files on your disk. Nothing uploads except the words you typed and the small pieces a request needs. Playback is hardware-decoded, exports go out as H.264, HEVC, or ProRes 422 up to 4K, and the footage from a real camera is a first-class citizen, not a file-size error.
Can ChatGPT edit videos? #
No. It can plan an edit, write you an ffmpeg command, or describe a cut, but it has no hands. An agent needs tools wired into a real editor to do the work. That is the gap agentic editors fill, and it is why klo also exposes its tools over MCP, so agents you already use (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) can drive the same timeline.
What it looks like in practice #
You import an hour of footage. klo transcribes every word, sends parallel readers through the clips, and writes notes on each file. Then you talk: "cut the dead air." "find where she laughs." "make it feel like a memory." "fix the flub at 0:41, in my voice." "export prores." Each ask is one credit. The timeline updates in front of you, and everything stays editable by hand.
The honest limits #
klo is Mac-only (macOS 13+). The agent is a strong editor, not a psychic one: on a vague ask it makes a judgment call you might restyle. And generated media (music, voiceover, video) uses credits, because those cost real money to make. The timeline, transcription, captions, and export are free, forever.
