What happens when you flip exactly one bit in a file? An open-source project called Bit Flip Lab provides a visual, deterministic fault-injection laboratory for studying the effects of changing exactly one bit in a file, following a select-mutate-decode-measure-observe workflow. The project reports experiments in which a single bit produced a measurable pixel change and another crossed a structural boundary and caused a PNG decoder failure, with the full visual demo, experiments, architecture, and methodology published on GitHub. The tool classifies consequences across raw byte changes, structural validity, integrity checks, and decoded or rendered output. I built Bit Flip Lab — a visual, deterministic fault-injection laboratory for studying what happens when exactly one bit changes. The workflow is simple: Select one bit → mutate → decode → measure → observe It can expose consequences at multiple levels: Raw byte changes Structural validity Integrity checks Decoded/rendered output Severity classification One experiment shows a single bit producing a measurable pixel change. Another crosses a structural boundary and causes a PNG decoder failure. The project is open source, with the full visual demo, experiments, architecture, and methodology on GitHub. https://github.com/MadB0i/Bit-Flip-Lab https://github.com/MadB0i/Bit-Flip-Lab HuggingFace OpenSource Research https://discuss.huggingface.co/c/research/7 CyberSecurity FaultInjection
