What happens when autonomous AI takes on the same tasks as the world’s top young AI talents?

Fourteen research organizations entered 15 fully autonomous AI systems in IOAI²: AI Models Track, a first-of-its-kind competition at the 2026 International Olympiad in AI, where each system faced the same six expert-designed tasks as high-school competitors from more than 100 countries and territories. Over two hours, each system had to navigate unfamiliar data, manage GPUs, run experiments, write code, submit, and improve its solutions without human guidance.
