WeVisCut: The Whole Editing Room in One Agent, from Narration to Long-Form Video

Researchers at Xidian University and WeChat Vision, Tencent Inc. introduced WeVisCut, a single 9B-parameter tool-agent policy that turns a script into a finished long-form video, scoring 90.5 overall on 100 held-out script-to-video tasks across five runs. WeVisCut used 2,377 tokens per successful output minute versus 78,763 for Claude Opus 5, which scored 89.9, and delivered at $0.09 per output minute against $0.97 for Crayotter and $0.58 for VideoAgent. The system was trained on 134,771 examples recovered from 3,750 finished projects through editing inversion and verified replay, and re-plans locally on director requests such as swapping a shot's source or restyling captions without re-shooting completed work.

From Narration to Long-Form Video

WeVisCut connects tool execution with policy learning for long-form script-to-video production. Editing inversion and verified replay recover executable supervision from 3,750 finished projects, yielding 134,771 training examples for a single 9B policy. On 100 held-out tasks, it achieves a 90.5 overall score and uses about 33× fewer generated tokens than Claude Opus 5 per successful output minute.

Every turn is observe → think → act. After the first cut lands, the director chats: swap a shot's source, change the music, restyle the captions — the policy re-plans locally and re-delivers, never re-shooting what already worked.

We recover editing intent from finished narration-driven videos, then replay it with production tools. The four-stage pipeline adds observation, bounded repair and trajectory materialization to produce executable supervision.

WeVisCut maintains shared production state across tool calls. Runtime feedback informs subsequent decisions, inspection, bounded repair and replanning instead of following a fixed open-loop workflow.

Selects legal tools from the current production state and coordinates planning, execution, inspection and delivery.

Creates scripts and shot plans, retrieves visual and audio assets, and composes narration, decorations and timeline edits.

Inspects returned artifacts against quality dimensions, identifies failures and routes targeted repair.

Validated tool returns update canonical state and artifacts, so each next action uses the latest run status.

Local fixes preserve successful work; inspection evidence feeds back into the policy for the next decision.

Unedited deliveries from the deployed runtime. One script in — one finished film out.

Scaling alone does not specialize. The Qwen3.6-35B-A3B baseline reaches 77.7 Overall, Gemini 3.1 Pro 84.6, and WeVisCut 90.5. Task-specific post-training closes the gap beyond model scale alone.

On par with Claude Opus 5 — at 33.1× fewer tokens. Better on SCF (+1.3), TPR (+0.9), LHC (+0.2), ERY (+0.9), −0.2 on VNSM; every metric within 1.3 points, with 97.0% fewer generated tokens and 73.3% fewer calls per output minute.

Native-stack advantage holds end-to-end. +6.8 SCF over Crayotter and +10.0 over VideoAgent, while running 4.1× / 5.0× faster at 10.8× / 6.4× lower cost — and humans prefer it on every dimension (4.56 vs 3.48 overall).

Three training phases specialize the 9B policy. Unified SFT and runtime-verified RFT initialize tool use and recovery; Guided-OPD trains recovery decisions; RCF-DAPO optimizes decision quality. Overall rises from 74.5 for the base model to 90.5.

A finished film is sampled uniformly per shot; the harness confirms keyframes as visual evidence and runs its analysis toolchain — layout, saliency, legibility, motion-overlap — before the held-out Claude Opus 5 judge scores two rubric dimensions: visual_impact and clarity , each with detailed reasoning and cited frames.
