Yoav Weiss makes a good point: [“WebMCP is Agentic WebPerf”](https://blog.yoav.ws/posts/why_webmcp_matters/).

I’ve seen both pushback to WebMCP in the form of *“websites should just be better, or agents should be smarter, there shouldn’t be alternative paths to using them built.”* And I’ve seen plenty of excitement for WebMCP in the form of *“ooooo AI droolface”*.

But it’s not really an alternative way to use a website, it’s exposing what a website can do in a programmatic way that allows agents to understand it right away instead of burning tokens to figure it out from scratch every time.

[WebMCP](https://webmachinelearning.github.io/webmcp/) enables the site to provide agents with direct JS tools they can call to accomplish tasks, and as a result, makes direct interaction significantly faster, better and cheaper. That circumvents the slowness/awkwardness of an AI agent trying to figure out how to interact with the site as if it’s a human.
