Skipping the Skill Did.\n\nThere's a cycle a lot of young people fall into, and it usually starts the same innocent way: scrolling, and an ad shows up. Trading bot. AI bot. Some kind of \"money-making\" bot. Web dev bot. Whatever the flavor, the ad only ever shows the good part, the wins, the finished product, the lifestyle.\n\nFor someone who feels stuck and isn't sure what to do with their life yet, that's a hard thing to scroll past. So they download it. Try it. Maybe fund it with whatever little cash they have. And within a week, especially with something like trading, that money's gone.\n\nSo what happens next isn't \"maybe this approach was the problem.\" It's \"let me find another ad that tells me what I want to hear.\" Because at that point, that's the story they need to believe.\n\nEventually, that search leads somewhere like a web dev bot. Same pattern, different label. It's free to try, and it spits out a landing page that actually looks impressive. Clean, polished, done in minutes. And just like that: \"I'm a developer now.\"\n\nSome of them go further and actually land a client deal off the back of that one good-looking demo. The problem is, they never tested it properly. Never deployed it for real. Never actually learned the stack underneath the pretty output. So the moment something breaks, or a client asks for something outside what the bot generated, they're stuck. No understanding of the dashboard, the code, any of it.\n\nThat's usually when the discouragement sets in. Not because they're incapable, but because they built on top of a shortcut instead of a foundation. A week or two of feeling behind, no motivation, no clear next step, and a lot of them quit. Not just the project. The skill entirely. Off to try the next thing.\n\nAnd here's the part that actually does the most damage, not to them, but to everyone coming up behind them.\n\nThe people who quit like this rarely quit quietly. They become the loudest voices telling new people not to bother. \"AI is trash.\" \"Web dev is fake.\" \"None of this actually works.\" Not because it's true, but because it's easier to believe the tool failed them than to sit with the fact that they skipped the part where you actually learn something.\n\nAnd because this group is, by far, the largest group, the ones who tried and gave up, their voice ends up being the loudest one new learners hear. Which is exactly backwards from who should be shaping anyone's decision to start or not start.\n\nHere's the actual truth underneath all of it: every tool has a tradeoff. Lean on AI too heavily, and you'll forget syntax, lose the muscle memory of actually solving problems yourself. Avoid it completely, and you'll move slower than people using it well. Neither extreme is automatically right. Both have a cost.\n\nSo pick your approach, bots, AI tools, fully manual, whatever fits how you want to work. But whichever one you choose, there's one non-negotiable underneath all of it.\n\nMaster the skill. Not the shortcut. The actual skill.\n\nAnd tune out the noise from people who quit before they got there. You're not doing this for them. You're doing it for you.", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/web-dev-is-fake-none-of-this-actually-works", "canonical_source": "https://dev.to/chesea_dev/web-dev-is-fakenone-of-this-actually-works-3l51", "published_at": "2026-07-29 07:21:43+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-07-29 07:35:08.783455+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["developer-tools", "artificial-intelligence", "ai-tools"], "entities": [], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/web-dev-is-fake-none-of-this-actually-works", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/web-dev-is-fake-none-of-this-actually-works.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/web-dev-is-fake-none-of-this-actually-works.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/web-dev-is-fake-none-of-this-actually-works.jsonld"}}
