It's built on great foundations.\"\n\nIn just a few years, artificial intelligence has transformed the way software is built.\n\nToday, developers can ask AI to generate functions, refactor code, write tests, explain bugs, and even build entire applications.\n\nTools like ChatGPT, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and many others have fundamentally changed software development.\n\nThe question is no longer:\n\n\"Can AI write code?\"\n\nThe answer is clearly **yes**.\n\nThe real question has become:\n\n\"Can AI engineer software?\"\n\nAnd that is a very different challenge.\n\nGenerating code is only one small part of software engineering.\n\nA production-ready system requires much more:\n\nThese are not isolated tasks.\n\nThey form a connected engineering system.\n\nMost AI tools today excel at generating code, but they still rely heavily on humans to provide context, rules, and architectural direction.\n\nWithout those, AI becomes inconsistent.\n\nEvery time I started a new software project, I noticed the same pattern.\n\nBefore writing meaningful business logic, I spent hours—or even days—recreating the engineering foundation.\n\nI had to:\n\nThe project changed.\n\nThe technology changed.\n\nThe AI model changed.\n\nBut the engineering work kept repeating.\n\nAgain.\n\nAnd again.\n\nAnd again.\n\nBut Projects Need More Than Conversations.\n\nMany people believe memory is the solution.\n\nIt isn't.\n\nConversation history helps AI remember what was said.\n\nEngineering requires AI to understand:\n\nProjects need persistent knowledge.\n\nNot temporary conversations.\n\nAfter working with multiple AI coding tools, I realized something important.\n\nEvery tool is trying to make AI smarter.\n\nVery few are trying to make engineering better.\n\nThere is a missing layer between developers and AI.\n\nA layer responsible for:\n\nThat realization eventually became an idea.\n\nAnd that idea became **NAEOS**.\n\nNAEOS stands for **Nusantara AI Engineering Operating System**.\n\nDespite its name, NAEOS is not an operating system like Linux or Windows.\n\nIt doesn't replace your editor.\n\nIt doesn't replace Git.\n\nIt doesn't replace AI models.\n\nInstead, NAEOS provides an engineering foundation that sits between developers and AI Coding Agents.\n\nIts purpose is simple:\n\nEnable AI to build software the way experienced engineering teams do.\n\nNot by giving better prompts.\n\nBut by giving better engineering systems.\n\nFor the last few years, much of the AI community has focused on prompt engineering.\n\nPrompt engineering is valuable.\n\nBut prompts alone do not create sustainable software.\n\nProduction systems require:\n\nIn other words:\n\nThey require engineering.\n\nThis is why I believe the next evolution is not Prompt Engineering.\n\nIt is **AI Engineering**.\n\nBecause engineering improves through collaboration.\n\nI don't want NAEOS to become another closed framework designed in isolation.\n\nInstead, I want it to evolve with feedback from developers, architects, researchers, and contributors around the world.\n\nEvery design decision.\n\nEvery architectural diagram.\n\nEvery document.\n\nEvery mistake.\n\nEvery improvement.\n\nWill be shared publicly.\n\nNot because everything will be perfect.\n\nBut because transparency builds trust.\n\nI imagine a future where starting a software project no longer begins with repetitive setup.\n\nInstead, every team begins with a shared engineering foundation.\n\nAI understands the project.\n\nDevelopers understand the architecture.\n\nDocumentation remains synchronized.\n\nEngineering knowledge becomes reusable.\n\nAnd software quality becomes predictable.\n\nThat is the future I want NAEOS to help build.\n\nThe coming articles will explore:\n\nThis journey is just beginning.\n\nIf these ideas resonate with you, I'd be honored to have you along for the ride.\n\nLet's build the foundation together.\n\n*— Bayu*\n\n*Founder, NAEOS*\n\nWhat do you think is the biggest challenge in AI-assisted software development today?\n\nI'd love to hear your perspective.", "url":
