An AI-made RuneScape clone that went viral after becoming playable in a web browser has been shut down following intervention from Jagex.
Elderwood Realms was created by developer Rohan Varma after asking GPT-6 Astra in Codex to “build RuneScape,” eventually growing into a multiplayer game with familiar locations, skilling, and combat. However, just days after thousands of players started joining, the website has since been taken offline.

Visitors to Elderwood’s website are now greeted with a message titled “Thank you for the adventure,” confirming the game has closed.
“We received a notice from Jagex asking us to take down the website,” the statement continued. “Following that notice, we are discontinuing Elderwood’s operation, and the game is no longer available.”
The takedown comes just days after Elderwood exploded in popularity. Varma previously said 3,000 accounts were created within its first 24 hours, with players spending more than 1,000 hours in the game.
Its similarities to Old School RuneScape had already attracted criticism, with players on the OSRS subreddit calling for Jagex to take action against the project.
While no longer playable, the site says the game’s high scores will remain online as a record of what players achieved before it was shut down. As of writing, Jagex hasn’t released any public comment on Elderwood’s closure. OSRS players, on the other hand, have been celebrating the move on the MMO’s subreddit.
