The data center infrastructure giant's results signal that AI spending isn't slowing down, and that has implications for crypto mining too
Vertiv Holdings just posted the kind of quarter that makes Wall Street analysts feel warm and fuzzy. The company reported Q2 2026 earnings on July 29 with diluted EPS growth of 53% and adjusted diluted EPS surging 60% compared to the same period last year.
The results were strong enough that Vertiv raised its full-year 2026 guidance across all major financial metrics. This is the second consecutive quarter the company has revised guidance upward, having already bumped expectations after Q1 results landed in April.
The AI infrastructure boom is very real #
Vertiv makes critical digital infrastructure, think power management, cooling systems, and IT management solutions, that keeps data centers running. Pre-earnings consensus estimates had pegged Q2 2026 revenue somewhere between $3.25B and $3.45B, with adjusted EPS estimated in the $1.37 to $1.43 range.
The company’s involvement in major projects underscores its market position. Vertiv has been linked to Hut 8’s massive $9.8 billion AI data center lease, one of the largest deals of its kind.
Why crypto investors should pay attention #
Data center infrastructure is data center infrastructure, whether it’s cooling GPUs running inference for OpenAI or ASICs mining Bitcoin. The same power distribution units, the same thermal management systems, the same rack architectures that Vertiv sells to AI hyperscalers are functionally identical to what large-scale crypto mining operations need. If AI companies are gobbling up all the data center capacity and infrastructure equipment, that could mean tighter supply and higher costs for crypto miners trying to build or expand their own facilities.
Several major crypto mining companies have pivoted toward offering AI hosting services precisely because the economics of selling rack space to AI customers have become more attractive than mining Bitcoin. Hut 8’s $9.8 billion AI data center lease is a perfect example of a company with deep crypto roots making a massive bet on AI infrastructure demand.
What this means for investors #
Vertiv’s results function as a leading indicator for the entire digital infrastructure supply chain. When a company that makes cooling systems and power management gear is growing earnings at 53% year-over-year, it tells you that the customers buying that equipment are spending aggressively.
For crypto-focused investors, as AI-related capital expenditures continue to swell, the cost of building and maintaining large-scale computing facilities is likely to increase, pressuring margins for crypto mining operations that haven’t already locked in long-term infrastructure deals. Companies that straddle both crypto and AI infrastructure, like Hut 8, are positioned to benefit from the same tailwinds driving Vertiv’s growth. Vertiv raising guidance for the second straight quarter suggests that enterprise technology spending remains robust. The risk to watch is valuation, as stocks in the AI infrastructure supply chain have been trading at premium multiples for over a year, and any sign that the capital expenditure cycle is decelerating could trigger sharp corrections.
