VergeIO is gunning for its VMware rival with promises of 120% faster migrations away from Broadcom-owned business.

The pledge was part of the latest update to its flagship VergeOS. Now available, Version 26.2 is targeting wantaway VMware users through faster initial and final transfers. The vendor claims its dedicated VMware migration service now features asynchronous I/O to its network block device (NBD) transfers, an addition it claims can make both stages 120% faster while also reducing cutover.

“VergeIO is focused on simplifying infrastructure design and operations by helping customers exit legacy stacks, reuse hardware to combat data center inflation, manage any number of distributed data centers, and prepare for on-premises AI workloads,” said Parag Patel, CEO of VergeIO. Today’s release lets IT execute a faster, less disruptive, and more complete VMware exit.”

To position itself among the myriad of VMware challengers, VergeIO has billed its private cloud operating system as a means to replace disparate layers with a single codebase, allowing virtualization, storage, networking, and tenancy to operate as native functions.

Having already secured several ex-VMware users, VergeIO has pushed into Europe to take advantage of customer [discontent on the continent](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/broadcom-faces-escalating-eu-scrutiny-over-vmware-licensing-changes-report/) in the wake of Broadcom’s sweeping licensing and [partner program changes](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/broadcom-calls-time-on-less-than-valued-vmware-partners/). Former DataCore Software exec [Rémi Bargoing](https://www.verge.io/press-release/vergeio-expands-to-europe-names-remi-bargoing-vice-president-emea-sales/) was recently brought in to lead he build-out of a local sales and partner team covering the wider EMEA region.

Its latest update, though, looks to firmly continue its aggressive market push, with version 26.2 of its flagship platform now including support for Microsoft Failover Clustering via its internal storage capability, VergeFS. The vendor contends that migrations of mission-critical Windows workloads stall due to a reliance on the feature, leaving users stuck with two hypervisors. VergeOS 26.2 aggregates commodity drives inside servers into a highly scalable, high-performance vSAN.

The update also targets single-server data center deployments, with VergeIO claiming it “lowers the requirements for these sites to one server with two network connections and no core network, so customers can bring those locations along in their VMware exit.”

The launch of Version 26.2 of VergeOS comes shortly after VergeIO coaxed [former VMware CTO Kit Colbert](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/former-vmware-cto-kit-colbert-backs-challenger-vergeio/) to join the challenger. The exec spent more than two decades at VMware before departing in 2024 and is now a board member at VergeIO following investment in the upstart.
