Task Force Talon Synapse would build on years of US-UAE cooperation in autonomous systems and artificial intelligence for military operations.
The US Central Command and the United Arab Emirates are reportedly planning to launch a joint AI-focused military task force called Task Force Talon Synapse. As of July 28, 2026, there are no confirmed reports or official announcements from CENTCOM or credible third-party sources regarding the initiative, and details surrounding its operational timeline, leadership, and scope remain unverified.
Building on Task Force 59 #
This isn’t CENTCOM’s first venture into AI-driven military operations. Task Force 59, launched in September 2021, has been integrating artificial intelligence with unmanned maritime systems across the region. That effort included joint exercises with Emirati forces, establishing a working template for bilateral tech cooperation.
CENTCOM has also been experimenting with other innovation-focused units. The Rapid Employment Joint Task Force, or RE-JTF, was designed to compress deployment cycles for emerging military technologies to 60 days or less. Task Force Scorpion Strike, another recent initiative, has focused on quickly fielding one-way attack drones and other asymmetric capabilities.
The UAE’s national AI strategy has emphasized machine learning, autonomous capabilities, and a domestic defense industry. The US-UAE defense relationship has been deepening since at least 2023, with joint exercises, shared intelligence frameworks, and collaborative development programs becoming routine.
