Upcoming deprecation of selected GitHub Copilot models in mid-November GitHub will deprecate three models across all GitHub Copilot experiences — Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5, and GPT-5.6 Terra — on November 16, 2026, directing users to Claude Opus 5.5 or GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna as replacements. Claude Opus 4.8 will remain available to individual Copilot subscribers on annual plans, and the suggested alternatives are automatically enabled for Copilot Enterprise and Copilot Business customers under default model enablement unless an administrator has turned off the global default. GitHub advises users to update workflows and integrations to supported models before the deprecation date, adding that no action is required to remove the models afterward.
