# Uber: Our engineers have doubled code output

Uber says its engineers are doubling their coding output as AI uptake reaches nearly 100% among its development team, allowing it to “moderate” new hiring.

The ride-sharing company highlighted the widespread adoption during an earnings call Wednesday, saying coding output for each of its 4,500-5,000 engineers had doubled as it pushes a cost-efficiency programme.

CFO Balaji Krishnamurthy said: “There is a lot more nuance to this, and we are being quite smart internally on how we are measuring this and not getting ahead of our skis. At a minimum, it has allowed us to moderate the pace with which we are adding headcount there.”

While Krishnamurthy said it was “early” in Uber’s AI rollout, during a Q1 earnings call in May, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company had been using AI tools “for years and years” and predicted 10% of its code was “committed” by agents.
