Two EU AI Act translations use FLOPs/s instead of cumulative FLOPs

ARXO-2026-0413 · Reported The other 22 versions measure the cumulative amount of computation in floating point operations, without a time unit. The added words do not fit the cumulative quantity described in the same paragraph. Recital 111 and Annex XIII, point (c), support a total number of operations.

Consequence

In a hypothetical case with a constant training rate, 2×10^25 operations over a million seconds means 2×10^19 operations per second. The total is above 10^25; the rate is not.

Proposed correction

Delete the words per second (por segundo, u sekundi) in Article 51(2).

Regulamento da Inteligência Artificial, versões portuguesa e croata: o limiar de 10^25 do artigo 51.º, n.º 2, é medido por segundo

As outras 22 versões medem a quantidade acumulada de cálculo em operações de vírgula flutuante, sem unidade de tempo. As palavras acrescentadas não correspondem à quantidade acumulada descrita no mesmo número. O considerando 111 e o anexo XIII, alínea c), apontam para um número total de operações.

Consequence

Num caso hipotético com uma taxa de treino constante, 2×10^25 operações ao longo de um milhão de segundos correspondem a 2×10^19 operações por segundo. O total é superior a 10^25; a taxa não é.

Proposed correction

Suprimir, no artigo 51.º, n.º 2, as palavras «por segundo» na versão portuguesa e «u sekundi» na versão croata.

Ostale 22 verzije mjere kumulativnu količinu računanja u matematičkim operacijama nad brojevima s pomičnim zarezom, bez jedinice vremena. Dodane riječi ne odgovaraju kumulativnoj količini opisanoj u istom stavku. Uvodna izjava 111. i Prilog XIII. točka (c) upućuju na ukupan broj operacija.

Consequence

U hipotetskom slučaju sa stalnom brzinom treniranja, 2×10^25 operacija tijekom milijun sekundi znači 2×10^19 operacija u sekundi. Ukupan broj veći je od 10^25; brzina nije.

Proposed correction

U članku 51. stavku 2. brisati riječi „por segundo” u portugalskoj verziji i „u sekundi” u hrvatskoj verziji.
