Add The New York Post on Google President Trump previewed his new nickname for artificial intelligence during a Tuesday speech to the United Nations General Assembly, while affirming the US would “rein in” the technology if necessary but stands opposed to international regulatory efforts.
“Whoever wins superintelligence wins. That’s the group that wins,” Trump said. “And we’re leading now over China by a lot and everyone else. And we’re going to keep it that way.”
The president added that the US “totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much — now, here and after, officially called super intelligence.”
“The use of the word artificial … makes it sound fake and it is not fake. It’s actually amazing,” Trump noted.
“I’m not going to stifle growth of something that will be bigger than the industrial revolution, many say bigger than the industrial revolution or the internet itself. And we will be very careful, and that’s why we have a Department of Justice, and we’ve already used it having to do with this very subject and used it very powerfully,” he continued.
“Everything worked out very well and very quickly. And other law enforcement bodies that will rein things in if we have to do that, but we will only encourage superintelligence. We’re going to encourage it, not rein it in,” he said. “We’re going to watch it closely through the Department of Justice. The United States leads the world in superintelligence and will continue.”
