President Donald J. Trump used a Truth Social post on Monday morning to call Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei “Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a “perfect little angel””. In the same post, Trump wrote that “The only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT”. The substance beneath the insult is what matters for investors.
In the same message, Trump asserted that “We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” and framed opposition to the buildout as “a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China.” Read those two lines together and the market signal is clear: the White House is positioning itself as aggressively pro-buildout and openly hostile to safety-driven slowdowns, while reminding AI firms of the levers Washington holds over them.
Why Amodei Is the Target #
This is an escalation of a running dispute. The immediate trigger is Dario Amodei’s warning that advanced AI could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs, alongside his repeated calls for a slower deployment cadence. Amodei is the loudest voice in a broader group that has included Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman on adjacent concerns, but he is the one currently drawing direct fire from the administration.
A practical note before the tickers: Anthropic has no US-listed common equity, and the ticker ANTW is a themed ETF that tracks an AI basket. Readers hunting for a way to “buy Anthropic” on this news will not find one.
Who Benefits From a Light-Touch Policy Posture #
The clearest listed beneficiaries of a White House that treats the AI buildout as a national-security imperative are the picks-and-shovels names (we profiled seven of these suppliers, from power to cooling, in a free report).
NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA | NVDA Price Prediction) sits at the center. Q2 FY27 revenue reached $96.22B, up 105.8% year over year, with data center revenue of $89.02B, up 117%. Guidance for Q3 is $108.0B plus or minus 2%, and management said on the Q2 FY27 8-K that Chinese Hopper shipments were less than 1% of data center revenue, with no China compute revenue in the forward outlook. Shares are at $211.44, up 13.64% year to date.
Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) is the custom-accelerator play. Q3 FY26 AI semiconductor revenue was $16.7 billion, up 221% year on year, and management guided AI revenue to $21.7 billion in Q4, with a FY27 outlook of roughly $115 billion and FY28 at $230 billion. Broadcom is deeply exposed to Anthropic itself: CEO Hock Tan said Anthropic is deploying one gigawatt of Ironwood in 2026, another five gigawatts of TPU v8i in 2027, and an incremental 10 gigawatts of line-of-sight capacity in 2028. Shares trade at $347.75, down 16.42% over the past month.
Vertiv Holdings (NYSE:VRT) supplies the power and thermal gear that a permitting fight would slow down first. Full-year 2026 guidance calls for net sales of $13.80B to $14.20B with organic growth of 30% to 32%, and Q3 guidance is $3.65B to $3.85B in revenue. Shares are at $237, up 46.35% year to date despite a 15.52% pullback in the past week. The forward P/E sits at 29, with an average analyst target of $338.15.
What to Watch Next #
The posture cuts both ways. A White House defining opposition to data centers as a China-friendly conspiracy is a tailwind for supply-constrained buildout names, where NVIDIA’s own commentary flagged approximately 70% growth in fiscal 2028 as a supply-constrained outlook. It is also a source of political risk for any AI firm that breaks publicly from the administration. Watch for whether other lab CEOs echo Amodei’s slowdown framing or distance themselves, and whether Broadcom’s Anthropic-linked gigawatt commitments start drawing scrutiny from either side of the aisle.
