Add The New York Post on Google President Trump announced he was creating a new “AI Force” and designating a new AI “czar” Saturday to keep the industry from engaging in bad practices – after doubling down that fears of AI superintelligence are just another “hoax.”
Trump compared a brewing panic over AI to a series of other events he has branded hoaxes, from the Russia probe to “men in women’s sports” and his two impeachments.
Then he compared the “crazed Data Center attack” to an effort “going straight at AI.”
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD” through the existing criminal justice system, he wrote on Truth Social.
“For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term.” He said he was screening “High I.Q. individuals” for the AI post.
His remarks come a day before Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent is set to sit down with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, with tariffs and AI expected to be on the table for talks.
Bessent said in a statement the two officials would discuss “both open and closed-weight models” of AI.
Trump’s announcement comes amid new pressure in Congress for legislative action to establish AI “guardrails” after a series of dire warnings from industry insiders.
