A $50 million AI-powered logistics platform in Panama aims to fast-track semiconductor and critical mineral shipments between the US and its allies.
The Trump administration has launched a pilot program in Panama to accelerate shipments of goods considered critical to artificial intelligence development between the US and its closest trading partners.
The State Department said Wednesday that the platform will fast-track trade in products essential to AI as part of Pax Silica, a US-led initiative focused on strengthening supply chains among allied countries.
The agency committed up to $50 million in foreign assistance funding to develop and deploy the platform. According to the announcement, the system will use AI technology to streamline logistics and speed the movement of high-priority goods.
The Panama project gives the administration a practical test for its broader effort to make allied AI supply chains faster and more resilient. By applying AI to the logistics process itself, the pilot is designed to reduce friction in moving strategically important products across borders.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of supply-chain policy in the global AI race. Access to advanced technology depends not only on computing capacity, but also on the reliable movement of the components and materials needed to build AI infrastructure.
