It’s a bit of an odd headline for Labor Day, sure – but Caterpillar’s new robot safety inspectors are absolutely here to take the safety inspector’s job help address the ongoing labor shortages in the construction, manufacturing, and mining spaces with a new, FieldAI-developed that the company says can provide real-time insights into equipment, infrastructure, and operations.
The buzzword-heavy press release talks about digital twins, operational optimization, risk mitigation, and actionable, AI-driven insights, and the ability to, “deploy in complex, dynamic industrial environments where traditional automation often falls short,” so you know they’re serious about whatever it is they’re talking about.

All of which seems to boil down to, “we’re using cameras on robots instead of real safety inspectors – and we’ll all blame each other as soon as this thing goes sideways.”
