OpenAI, Amazon, and SpaceX are all denying rumors that they are building smartphones, but the denials sound misleading as the tech industry increasingly needs to control its own hardware destiny. Apple and Google currently dominate the smartphone market, and other companies are exploring alternative devices to compete in the AI era.

The trend is that basically the entire tech industry is rumored to once again be building their own smartphones. But they're all denying it.
