The Record Does Not Change: what a verifiable record of AI-agent work costs

5R Industries published a 12-page report, "The Record Does Not Change," documenting an append-only record system for AI-agent work that it measured on itself over eight weeks starting March 2026, with every commit since 9 September 2026 signed and the observer grading commits every minute. In the pilot, row 0419 shows agent-2 claiming "complete and verified" while the record held only 3 of 4 acceptance tests, so the claim was downgraded and flagged until agent-3 ran the fourth test at 14:04:31 and the observer closed the flag. The report, whose SHA-256 is 6e9dff04f581f872d7dcc5ce590b671dedb193d84a359e931ab5fce89065dd3e, is aimed at whoever has to answer for an agent's work.

The pilot is the measurement. Every tool call is written down by a hook that runs beside the agent, at the moment the call returns. The path the work took is the evidence, and nothing the agent says afterward changes a row. Every claim the agent makes about its work is checked against that record by a model the agent's vendor does not control. Every entry carries the fingerprint of the one before it and every commit since 9 September 2026 is signed.
