The Arduino UNO Q is an almost perfect Hermes Agent host

An Arduino UNO Q board with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage successfully ran the Hermes agent client, allowing the agent to control hardware such as flashing an LED and running Conway's Game of Life on the board's 8x13 LED matrix. The user, who shared the experience on Hacker News, connected the agent to a ChatGPT subscription and highlighted the board's affordability and isolation as key benefits.

I’ve wanted to try out Hermes agent for a while now but I never wanted to run it on my own personal machine. I thought about maybe using a hosted VPS but I wasn’t keen on the ongoing cost. Then I looked a recently acquired Arduino UNO Q. A weird arduino board that has an arduino on one side and Linux on the other side. The Linux chip can communicate to the arduino chip. The board I have has 4GB of ram and 32GB of storage. Plenty of power to run the Hermes agent client. I never intended to run a local LLM on the arduino. I wanted an isolated machine where I could run it that was more affordable than buying a new computer. The Q offered all of this. Affordable, cheap on power and isolated.

So I plugged it in and ssh’d into the board and installed Hermes, setup was pretty straightforward. I connected my ChatGPT subscription and we were in business.

The first thing I asked the agent to do was flash a LED on the board, and it did just that. I then asked it to run the game of life on its 8x13 LED Matrix. Which would need it to interface with the arduino side of the board. After it searched docs for a bit, it had Conways game of life running on the board. Wow.

After setting up messaging it had me thinking, I can plug a whole bunch of electronic components to this thing. The Arduino UNO has these things called Modulino which are electronic components like temperature sensors that can be daisy chained from the board. This creates a whole world of possibilities creating a Hermes IOT agent like thing.
