# Tether AI unveils state-of-the-art vision model for edge devices with benchmarks

The stablecoin giant's AI division continues building out its QVAC platform with on-device capabilities designed to cut the cord from cloud computing

Tether AI has introduced a new vision model for edge devices through its QVAC platform, complete with benchmarks pitted against competing models. The announcement marks another step in the stablecoin issuer’s increasingly ambitious push into decentralized artificial intelligence.

## What QVAC actually does

The QVAC platform, which stands as Tether AI’s core SDK and runtime environment, enables on-device AI inference and training, letting your computer run AI models locally without sending data to someone else’s servers.

SDK version 0.12.0 introduced lightweight image classification capabilities, while the more recent version 0.16 added integration with NVIDIA’s GR00T framework for robotics applications. The latest updates also brought OCR (optical character recognition) and vision-language-action functionality, expanding what edge devices can actually perceive and act on.

A key piece of the puzzle is TurboQuant, a quantization optimization baked into the SDK. It delivers up to 5x memory efficiency improvements, which means larger, more capable models can squeeze onto consumer-grade hardware that would otherwise choke on them.

## Benchmark results tell an interesting story

Tether AI’s QVAC MedPsy models, launched in May 2026, offer a useful reference point. The 1.7B parameter model scored 62.62 across multiple medical benchmarks, outperforming Google’s MedGemma by 11.42 points. The larger 4B parameter variant hit 70.54 on the same benchmarks, while maintaining significantly lower resource requirements.

## The privacy and crypto angles

The QVAC platform is positioned as open-source, a deliberate contrast to the walled gardens that OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic have constructed around their most capable models. Tether AI also incorporates support for payments through both USDT and Bitcoin within its framework, potentially enabling micropayments for model access, compute resources, or specialized fine-tuning services without touching traditional payment rails.

The public AI initiative began in late 2024, with Tether AI formally launching in 2025. In roughly 18 months, the division has shipped multiple SDK versions, released competitive benchmark results against Google’s medical AI, and expanded into vision, robotics, and multimodal capabilities.

## What this means for investors

The integration of USDT and Bitcoin payments into an AI framework creates potential new demand drivers for both assets. If QVAC gains meaningful adoption, every model inference paid for in USDT represents organic transaction volume.

Investors should monitor whether independent researchers validate the benchmark claims. The MedPsy numbers were impressive, but reproducibility by third parties would substantially strengthen the investment thesis around Tether’s AI ambitions. The research context itself notes that no dedicated benchmarks for the newly announced vision model have been confirmed.
