Teaching a World Model to Play Pokemon A developer trained a LeWorldModel JEPA-based world model locally on an RTX 3080 Ti to play Pokémon Red, and the model learned to plan a sequence of button presses that selected the Squirtle starter from a saved state in Professor Oak's lab. The experiment narrowed its goal to acquiring any of the three starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle) from that saved position, where pressing the A button twelve times is sufficient to complete the selection. The author noted more difficulties and setbacks than expected despite promising results in simpler tests. Teaching a World Model to Play Pokémon I think some of the most fascinating work happening in the field of Artificial Intelligence surrounds world models. There are many kinds of world models and the term itself has become a bit overloaded , but one of the most exciting architectures for world models is Yann LeCun’s JEPA Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture . There are many variants, and one that caught my eye in particular was LeWorldModel https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.19312
