If you’ve ever second-guessed someone’s dating app profile, chances are your gut instinct was correct. Seeking.com noticed just how many users were lying about their appearance, background and more on dating apps — so they decided to do something big.

In a shocking move, the luxury dating website is exposing images of scammers caught in real time via AI selfie verification software. The tool analyzes someone’s face, demeanor and conversations to sense any foul play. Over 90% of tricksters have been booted from the platform, the majority of whom didn’t even get to the point where they sign up.

Seeking.com The idea behind Seeking.com‘s strategy is not just to inspire people to stop lying about their background. They hope their message shows other dating apps how easy it is to call out fraudsters, yet they choose not to.

“With the help of AI, we’re ending this,” said Brandon Wade, co-CEO of Seeking.com, in a statement. “We talk about romance scams as statistics, but those statistics hide real victims, real pain, and real money lost. Our message to the industry is simple: let’s see them. Expose the faces, eliminate the fraud, and stop pretending safety is a side project.”

According to the Federal Trade Commission, in 2023 alone, consumers lost $1.14 billion to romance scams. Furthermore, a little over 64,000 reports of fraud were filed that same year.

Per Seeking.com’s research, some of the hotspots for romance scam operations are China, India, Indonesia, Romania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

To fight against fraud, ever since January 2025, the platform has required its users to submit live selfies to verify whether they’re authentic. As a result, 53,000 scammers have been blocked before even getting a chance to message someone, which measures up to a 90.3% reduction in imposters.

Finding love is hard enough, so why waste time falling for a fraudster?
