The partnership adds Supermicro's liquid-cooled rack-scale AI systems to Cisco's Secure AI Factory, with commercial availability slated for October 2026.
Super Micro Computer just got the kind of endorsement that moves markets. Cisco Systems announced it will integrate Supermicro’s high-density, liquid- and air-cooled rack-scale AI servers into its Secure AI Factory platform, and SMCI shareholders responded by sending the stock up 9.35% to close at $38.46 on August 25.
The deal added roughly $2 billion to Supermicro’s market capitalization in a single session.
What the Cisco deal actually involves #
Cisco plans to start offering Supermicro’s rack-scale systems commercially in October 2026 as part of its Secure AI Factory with NVIDIA. The architecture supports NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin NVL72 and HGX Rubin NVL8 platforms and is NCP-compliant, meaning it meets the standards required for high-performance cloud deployments. The target customers span enterprise clients, neocloud providers, and sovereign cloud operators.
The liquid cooling angle is particularly relevant. As AI racks push past 100 kilowatts per unit, traditional air cooling can’t keep up. Supermicro has positioned itself as a leader in liquid cooling solutions for these high-power configurations, and that capability is a big part of what Cisco is buying into.
Supermicro’s AI-driven revenue machine #
The company reported fiscal Q4 revenue of $11.1 billion, a 93% increase, with gross margins at 17.5%. Over 80% of Supermicro’s sales now come from AI-related orders. Supermicro supplies rack-scale systems compatible with chips from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel.
Management has provided guidance for FY2027 revenue between $65 billion and $72 billion.
The governance cloud hasn’t fully cleared #
The company has faced governance concerns and a Taiwan export investigation that have contributed to significant share price volatility. At $38.46, SMCI remains well below the highs it reached during the initial AI infrastructure frenzy.
Investors weighing the $65 billion to $72 billion revenue guidance against the ongoing investigations will need to price both the opportunity and the risk.
What this means for the AI infrastructure market #
Cisco’s entry into AI rack-scale systems through Supermicro creates competitive pressure on Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo, which all compete in this space. The October 2026 commercial launch date means the market will get its first real demand signal within two months.
