This is the same operating system found in Valve’s official Steam hardware, namely the Steam Deck, and more recently the Steam Machine (and upcoming Steam Frame). With the launch of the Steam Machine last week, one of the biggest side effects is a wider SteamOS launch with version 3.8.\nSteamOS 3.8 essentially acts as a more public release for the Linux-based operating system, which Valve previously only recommended using on AMD-powered handhelds such as the Legion Go or ROG Ally series. Now it is better supported on desktop gaming PCs, particularly for Intel and AMD hardware. Meta PCs’ new SteamOS desktop is called the Steamroller.\n\nSign up for our free, weekly newsletter!\n\nSubscribe\n\nBy signing up, you acknowledge our privacy policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Leave this field empty if you’re human: \n\nSteamroller launches on July 3 – you can pre-order one now\nThe Steamroller is a prebuilt gaming PC fitted with AMD’s last-gen entry-level RX 7600 graphics card, which is still great for 1080p gaming and many titles at 1440p. The recent update for FSR 4.1 Upscaling support on the 7000 series will also lend a helping hand for improving performance. These specs should offer performance that is a step above the Steam Machine.\n\nPrime Day deals\nPrime Day is officially here, and we've found all the best deals on tech and gaming.\n\n AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D - was $479 now $433.99\n\n Samsung 32\" Odyssey G55C - was $329 now $189\n\n Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 2TB - was $679.99 now $349.99\n\n Hisense 100\" U7 Mini-LED - was $4,499 now $2,499.99\n\n ASUS ROG AMD RX 9070 XT & 9800X3D Gaming PC - was $2,299.99 now $2,119.99\n\nPrices correct as of June 23rd on Amazon.com.\n\nComponentSpecificationChassisJONSBO D32 BlackProcessorAMD Ryzen 5 9600XGraphics CardAMD Radeon RX 7600MotherboardB650M/B850M with WiFi (brand and model will vary)Memory16GB DDR5 5600 MT/sCooling240mm Meta AIOPower SupplyMeta Gold 650WM.2 Storage (Slot 1)1TB NVMe M.2Operating SystemSteamOS\nSteamroller is now available to pre-order on the Meta PCs store and is due to ship on July 3\nWe think upgradability is the big selling point versus the Steam Machine, as the Steamroller launches with AM5 hardware (alongside DDR5 RAM), leaving plenty of room for improvement – as AMD plans to support AM5 for years to come. Priced at $1,299, the Steamroller is $250 more than Valve’s 512GB, and $50 cheaper than the 2TB Steam Machine.\nIt doesn’t come with the same small form factor as the Steam Machine – and we found out last week that building your own compact DIY Steam Machine does come with compromises. Putting together a regular gaming PC with SteamOS installed is much easier, but if you’d like a hassle-free prebuilt, then the Steamroller should draw your attention.\n\nPrime Day is coming — don’t miss the deals\n\n Get ready for exclusive savings with Prime.\nAges 18–24 can get a 6-month Prime trial for $0\n\n Start your Prime trial →\n \n\n 1300Would you buy a bare bones Steam Machine?Would you buy a variant of the Steam Machine with no RAM and/or no SSD and install them separately to help save on costs?
