[3][5] Spur Intelligence has secured a $200 million investment from Insight Partners, giving the Lake Mary, Florida-based cybersecurity startup fresh capital to expand its products, data coverage, integrations and enterprise operations.[1]
The announcement did not identify the transaction as a conventional venture round, disclose Spur’s valuation or say how much of the company Insight will own. It also omitted revenue, growth and named-investor terms. TechCrunch described the financing as a round led by Insight.[1][2]
An infrastructure-focused layer for bot defense #
Founded in 2017 by former US Defense Department engineers Riley Kilmer and Ethan Smith, Spur analyzes IP addresses and the infrastructure carrying internet traffic. Its products identify connections routed through VPNs, residential proxies, mobile gateways and other systems that can obscure a user’s location or identity. Customers can consume that intelligence through APIs, on-premises data feeds and real-time session enrichment.[2][3]
Spur pitches that network-level view as a complement to application-layer bot-management systems. Incumbents including Cloudflare and HUMAN Security combine signals such as browser fingerprints, request patterns, machine learning and behavioral analysis to score or block automated traffic. Spur instead emphasizes explainable details about routing infrastructure, proxy providers and tunnel behavior.[3][5]
The company has disclosed GoPuff as a customer but keeps most case-study clients anonymous, describing them only as technology, financial, gaming, retail and social-media companies. Spur says one unnamed technology customer reduced fraudulent account creation by more than 90%, while a financial institution cut successful account-takeover attempts by more than 40%. Those results have not been independently verified.[4]
Insight’s investment will fund product development, intelligence coverage, integrations and enterprise operations, according to Spur. The companies did not provide a hiring target, spending breakdown or timetable for deploying the capital.[1]
