# Spectra Logic adds AI-powered video content discovery > Source: > Published: 2026-09-09 13:38:51+00:00 DATA MANAGEMENT # Spectra Logic adds AI-powered video content discovery [Spectra Logic](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/data-protection/2019/04/08/backup-for-a-minute-and-scan-this-data-protection-news/1594987) has brought in a new Media Insight offering that it says makes archived video media easier to find, preview, and restore.  Media Insight is part of Spectra’s [Rio Media Suite](https://spectralogic.com/rio-media-suite/ ), a subscription-based media archiving platform (MAP). It uses AI-powered enrichment in the discovery process, analyzing archived video to identify scenes and other elements. This enables more efficient discovery and retrieval of content within the media archive, making it easier to explore and personalize compared to using system file metadata and manual content tagging. Hossein ZiaShakeri, SP and GM of Media and Telecom at Spectra Logic, said: “Media archives contain enormous amounts of valuable content, but that value is limited when people cannot easily find and access what they need. Media Insight brings intelligence and visual discovery to the archive, making it easier for organizations to find, understand, preview, and restore the right content using visual and metadata context, then retrieve only what they need, supporting ongoing production and efficient content reuse.” Media Insight provides thumbnails, proxies, metadata-driven search, AI-assisted enrichment and access to associated production assets. This helps media teams find, preview, understand and evaluate content before retrieving high-resolution files. Users can then select the portion of a file they need and use timestamped Partial File Restore to retrieve only that content. Spectra asserts that, by supporting the workflow from search through targeted restore, Media Insight can streamline archive workflows and make archived media more accessible and useful for ongoing production and content reuse. Back in November 2022 Quantum was developing AI software that can inspect unstructured data stored in its StorNext file system and ActiveScale object storage to identify content in videos, images and documents. CatDV would have this AI-generated metadata added to it, and then be used in media asset searching as an index through which to find content e.g. for reference or reuse in creating a broadcast news item. Four years later Quantum said [CatDV](), its media asset management application, integrates with leading AI services to log and tag content through capabilities such as speech to text and automatic language translation. It can search for content automatically on attributes such as people, places, things, and sentiment. In January 2024 S3 cloud storage provider Wasabi bought [Curio](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/ai-ml/2024/01/23/wasabi-gets-into-ai-powered-video-content-metadata-generation/1617508) for its AI-powered video content indexing technology, and intended to offer a focussed entertainment and media industry storage tier. It's now called Wasabi AiR. September 2024 saw Digital asset management firm [Starchive](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/architecture/2024/09/16/seagate-seasons-with-starchive-to-improve-media-asset-management/1603601) adding its AI-powered tools to the Seagate Lyve Cloud Object Storage service, with the pitch that this will improve data discovery for the companies’ joint media and entertainment customers. Starchive would enable the combined platform to integrate with any AI solution, such as AWS Object Rekognition, letting users tag, group, manage, and augment their content and data. Advanced metadata features would make objects easier to find, group, and share inside Seagate’s Lyve Cloud Object Storage, and content previews and low-latency streaming allow users to view hi-fidelity previews while retaining the original source files intact. In August last year [Arcitecta](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/ai-ml/2025/08/12/arcitecta-now-adept-at-ai/1588686) said had evolved its Mediaflux data access and management fabric to an AI-ready platform with structured and unstructured data support, a vector database, and AI model support. Other competitors include Magnifi, Moments Lab, Twelve Labs, Veritone Digtal Media Hub, and VIDA Content S, plus the three main public clouds: Azure AI Video Indexer, Amazon Rekognition Video, and Google Cloud Video Intelligence. ##### Bootnote Two years ago Spectra Logic introduced its [RioPanel](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/data-management/2024/09/13/spectra-logic-streamlines-content-management-in-avid-media-composer/1586911) content management and archiving application for Avid Media Composer environments. Features included comprehensive search to filter and discover content based on multiple types of metadata and content, and the ability to scale performance and availability from several users to hundreds.
