July 25 (Asia Today) -- South Korean companies and global technology firms plan to pursue semiconductor partnerships valued at a combined $950 billion following the San Francisco AI Summit attended by President Lee Jae Myung, the presidential office said Saturday.
Kim Yong-beom, Lee's chief policy secretary, announced the projects during a briefing at the presidential press center in San Francisco.
Samsung Electronics and Broadcom signed a memorandum of understanding covering more than $200 billion in advanced memory supplies and foundry cooperation for AI chip production over the next five years.
SK Group plans to pursue long-term agreements to supply $750 billion in advanced memory chips to Nvidia and other global technology companies over the same period.
South Korean companies and their global partners also agreed to cooperate on large-scale AI data center investments totaling about 5 gigawatts of capacity and roughly 2 million graphics processing units.
SK Telecom agreed to receive Nvidia's support as it develops and expands AI data centers with up to 2 gigawatts of capacity. The company also plans to introduce Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin computing systems.
SK Telecom and Anthropic will explore joint investment in a gigawatt-scale AI data center project in South Korea.
Naver entered into a strategic investment agreement with Nvidia and signed an infrastructure funding agreement with global asset manager Brookfield. The companies plan to build global AI factory infrastructure involving up to $10 billion in investment.
The presidential office said cooperation would also expand in physical AI, the third area of the government's three major AI projects.
Hyundai Motor Group and Nvidia plan to jointly develop a standardized robot reference platform that universities and startups can use to develop and test AI-powered robots.
Hyundai also announced plans to work with Waymo to manufacture vehicles designed for the autonomous-driving company's technology.
Samsung SDS and Anthropic signed a strategic partnership to identify new AI markets and jointly train AI engineers.
