According to a report by Nikkei Asia, an unprecedented memory chip shortage driven by surging demand for AI infrastructure has prompted major global PC makers, including HP, Asus, and Acer, to begin limited adoption of DRAM chips produced by China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT).

Sources familiar with the matter said that several leading PC manufacturers completed the qualification process for CXMT’s DRAM chips around mid-2026 and have since started using them in a limited number of notebook PCs. However, both the volume of CXMT chips being deployed and the number of laptop models incorporating them remain very limited.

CXMT is prioritizing most of its production capacity for Chinese customers such as Huawei, constraining the supply available to PC vendors, sources added. Currently, laptops equipped with CXMT memory chips are sold primarily in markets outside the US. [[TechWeb](https://www.techweb.com.cn/it/2026-08-04/2977965.shtml), in Chinese]
