Anthropic's Legal Battles Escalate #

Sony and Warner argue that settlement was insufficient. They state that Anthropic treats infringement as a business expense. The complaint highlights Claude's ability to reproduce lyrics verbatim when prompted.
"Anthropic clearly considers that to be just the cost of doing business given that its entire business model continues to be built on copyright theft," Sony and Warner said in their complaint. "And $1.5 billion is obviously not a large enough settlement to deter infringing conduct by a company that has parlayed such mass infringement into a staggering $2-trillion-dollar valuation." The publishers also claim Claude generates new lyrics that compete with original works. They call these outputs harmful market substitutes. This argument could shape how courts view AI-generated content.
Copyright Law Meets AI Training #
Tech companies face mounting legal pressure over training data. Authors, news outlets, and music labels have filed multiple suits. The core question is whether using copyrighted material for AI training constitutes fair use.
