Sony Music, Universal Music Group Sue Suno Over Label-Backed Model: ‘Fruit of the Same Poisoned Tree’

Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group filed a new 45-page lawsuit against Suno in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, alleging the AI music-generation company's new label-backed "v6" model family still infringes their copyrighted works. The labels argued that Suno's admission its v6 models trained on outputs of its previous models means "training a 'new' model on the outputs of an infringing model does not eliminate the infringement; it launders it," adding that "V6 is not a fresh start; it is the fruit of the same poisoned tree." Suno did not have an immediate comment.
