SK hynix reported preliminary second-quarter revenue of 79.3187 trillion won and operating profit of 60.5426 trillion won. Operating profit increased 557% from a year earlier, while the operating margin reached 76%, compared with 41% in the second quarter of 2025. The consolidated K-IFRS figures remain subject to the company’s independent audit process. [[1]](https://news.skhynix.com/en/q2-2026-business-results/)

The record results reflected tight memory supply and strong demand from AI infrastructure customers, but fell below investors’ elevated forecasts. SK hynix shares dropped 13% in Seoul on Wednesday after revenue missed an 84 trillion won estimate and operating profit came in below a 64 trillion won LSEG SmartEstimate forecast. ## HBM4 shipments begin as customers seek more supply

SK hynix said demand from expanding AI infrastructure helped lift prices for high-bandwidth memory, server DRAM and enterprise solid-state drives. Both DRAM and NAND prices increased from the first quarter as sales shifted toward higher-value products. [[1]](https://news.skhynix.com/en/q2-2026-business-results/)

The company began mass shipments of HBM4 during the quarter and plans to ramp production in the second half of 2026. It also shipped HBM4E samples during the first half. SK hynix did not disclose a numerical HBM capacity figure, but said customer demand exceeds its ability to supply requested volumes. [[1]](https://news.skhynix.com/en/q2-2026-business-results/)

To secure longer-term visibility, SK hynix has completed long-term agreements with about 10 customers and remains in talks with other large buyers. President Song Hyun-jong said major customers continue to request additional memory. The agreements typically run for five years and include safeguards such as customer deposits, according to Reuters. ## Capital spending rises to fund wafer and packaging capacity

SK hynix raised its 2026 capital-spending plan to the high-40 trillion won range, or about $27.6 billion, from 30.2 trillion won in 2025. The company said it would accelerate the production schedule at its M15X fab and expand capacity after the first cleanroom at its Yongin complex opens in early 2027. Longer-term projects include the P&T7 advanced-packaging facility, the M17 NAND production base and a new semiconductor cluster. SK hynix said those investments will proceed in stages according to customer demand and investment efficiency. The company also said it would adjust spending if necessary to avoid creating excess supply. The company enters that expansion with a stronger balance sheet. Cash and cash equivalents reached 88 trillion won at quarter-end, while total debt fell to 18.6 trillion won, producing a net cash position of 69.4 trillion won. [[1]](https://news.skhynix.com/en/q2-2026-business-results/)

## Record results still trailed the market’s expectations

SK hynix did not provide formal third-quarter revenue or operating-profit guidance. On the earnings call, it guided for DRAM bit shipments to increase by about 10% sequentially and NAND shipments to rise by a low-single-digit percentage, according to Tom’s Hardware. The publication reported that second-quarter DRAM average selling prices rose roughly 30%, while NAND prices increased in the mid-50% range. [[3]](https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/sk-hynix-operating-profit-rises-557-percent)

Net profit reached 93.9226 trillion won, exceeding revenue because it included 63.3 trillion won in investment-asset gains. SK hynix did not detail the source of those gains in its earnings announcement. Analysts cited by Reuters attributed them to the completed sale of an interest associated with Japanese flash-memory producer Kioxia. [[1]](https://news.skhynix.com/en/q2-2026-business-results/)[[2]](https://www.brecorder.com/news/40432339/sk-hynixs-record-profit-misses-forecasts-shares-slump-13-despite-robust-ai-chip-demand)

Analysts attributed part of the earnings miss to slower-than-expected HBM4 shipments, which delayed revenue recognition. Management said its blended DRAM pricing was affected by product mix and by higher-value shipments moving into the second half, when HBM4 and sixth-generation 1c DRAM production are scheduled to ramp.
