Show HN: The Public Eye – Agentic search for congressional bill legibility Developers Dan and a collaborator released The Public Eye, an agentic search tool that lets users query the sponsorship and voting records of U.S. representatives, with a bot named John Q. Public citing relevant bills and linking to key sections. The project is currently scoped to the 119th Congress and uses retrieval-augmented generation over bill text, member info, and bill metadata to enrich answers with citations. The developers posted it to Hacker News ahead of Election Day and are soliciting feedback and bug reports. I wanted to share something that Dan and I have been working on for some time. This is the Public Eye, a project that we began with the intention of making congressional bills and actions by legislators more legible. The Public Eye currently enables agentic search over the sponsorship and voting records of our representatives in the United States. The bot, John Q. Public, directly cites relevant bills for your questions brings you to the key sections of those bills as you discuss the actions of the delegation or individual representatives for any state in the union. It's currently scoped to the 119th Congress. The agent has tools for RAG over bill text, member info, and various pieces of metadata about bills to enrich and provide citations for answers. Election Day is nigh so I hope this can be a useful resource for understanding what your reps have been doing for you. We want to continue iterating and improving on it, so please experiment and provide us with any feedback or issues that you run into https://github.com/danthompson41 https://github.com/danthompson41 Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50337363 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50337363 Points: 1 Comments: 0
