Show HN: The Last SaaS – A headless SaaS for agents and assistants A developer released The Last SaaS, a headless SaaS project with no UI that is driven entirely through a CLI, API, and MCP server, letting assistants such as Claude generate interfaces on demand. The project, posted to Hacker News as a Show HN, can be backed by SQLite or Postgres for self-hosting, with a free hosted version available for testing. The author framed it as an experiment in how much of typical SaaS functionality — CRUD, permissions, users, and notifications — can be replaced by agent-driven primitives rather than a startup. This kind of started as a joke, and it still kind of is. But it's also kind of fun to think about what the minimum number of primitives would cover all possible typical SaaS applications. And then drive that from an agent/assistant. There is obvious stuff like CRUD, and then permissions, users, notifications etc. So basically I made a start of a "headless SaaS" that has no UI and is just a CLI/API/MCP that you can connect your Claude etc to and it can make the UIs and displays in real time when you need it. This isn't like a startup. I'm more curious about your opinions about how much of SaaS can just be replaced. It can be backed by SQLite or Postgres , so it's super quick to self-host, but you can also use the hosted version for free to test it out. The repo is at https://github.com/mkly/thelastsaas https://github.com/mkly/thelastsaas The website that demonstrates basic usage and installation: https://thelastsaas.com https://thelastsaas.com The main app is at https://app.thelastsaas.com https://app.thelastsaas.com There is both a CLI and an MCP available. Both have the same functionality. Thanks for taking a look. Suggestions and feedback greatly appreciated.
