Show HN: Smart Blur – Auto-Blur PII in the Browser, with a OpenAI Local Model Vicky launched Smart Blur, a Chrome browser extension from Smart Build Labs that uses WebGPU to run a local OpenAI model for detecting and blurring personally identifiable information on web pages, including unstructured PII such as names and addresses that regex-based tools miss. The extension also includes a Share Shield feature that detects browser screen sharing and automatically enables blur mode, then disables it when sharing stops. The tool requires no account or server. Hi folks, This is Vicky, I build privacy focused tools and utilities with Local AI on late nights and weekends. I came here to talk about my new product Smart Blur - Smart Build Labs, a Chrome/Browser extension that blurs sensitive things on any web page before anyone else sees them. There are already quite a few options available that does the same. So why new one? Two reasons 1. Open AI Local Model: Existing product uses regex to find email, phone, ssn etc. But these do not understand the context and doesn't work on unstructured PII like Names and Addresses. Smart Blur uses WebGPU to run the local model directly on machine and detect PII before it gets leaked 2. Share Shield that auto detects the screen sharing from browser and turn on your blur mode. This is a life saving feature for those whose life runs on demos and meetings. It also automatically turns off the blur as soon as sharing stops. Please give it try. No account and no server needed. The product has been designed to keep privacy in mind. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49997240 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49997240 Points: 4 Comments: 2
