Show HN: Possiblymadebyahuman, sign the writing process, now with Chrome ext

A new tool called Possiblymadebyahuman lets writers record and cryptographically sign their writing process to assert human authorship, using a Chrome extension, a browser-based /write page, or Emacs. The tool records the shape of a user's editing as they go, signs it with a hash chain, and produces a short URL anyone can check, with server timestamps spanning the writing session so that faking a twenty-minute span would require twenty minutes between submissions. The project frames itself as a reverse Turing test, acknowledging it cannot prove a human wrote a text but can provide a verifiable record of the process.

But we can record the writing process, and sign it for you. #

You wrote something. Actually wrote it.

But some know-it-all tired of wading through AI-generated slop decided that it was made by a machine — maybe you forgot to not use em-dashes!

It’s annoying but it’s a fact of life. And another fact is that you cannot really prove that you wrote it, because you cannot come up with an actual verifiable proof that a sufficiently motivated AI will not be able to spoof.

Oh well. It cannot be done but we are doing it anyway. You can at least assert that it was you who did it, and share a record of the writing process. When server timestamps span twenty minutes, faking that same span takes twenty minutes between submissions too.

You write where you already write: the Chrome extension records the text boxes you choose, in comments, forum replies and email. You can also write on /write with nothing to install, or in Emacs. We record the shape of your editing as you go, sign it with a hash chain, and give you a short URL anyone can check. Here is one.

Think of it as a reverse Turing test.

This is what it's come to!
