Show HN: OpenXet A developer released OpenXet, an open-source reimplementation of Hugging Face's Xet protocol, built by reengineering the protocol from its public descriptions with Anthropic's Claude. Xet, which Hugging Face uses in its service, had kept its server side closed source; the author says the client is open source and some blog posts describe the mechanisms, and is soliciting stars and feedback. Xet 1 seems like a good idea in a world of ever more data hungry applications. It's used in Huggingface's service but the server side has been kept close source. I started reengineering it with Claude from the protocol descriptions to provide it for everyone. If you think it's cool, I am grateful for any stars and feedback Please no AI-Slop discussions. I am optimistic about the potential for this kind of service since the client is open source and some blog posts describe the mechanisms. Still happy to hear where it's taking wrong directions and needs more guidance. 1 https://huggingface.co/docs/hub/en/xet/index https://huggingface.co/docs/hub/en/xet/index Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50229716 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50229716 Points: 1 Comments: 0
