Show HN: ElNeo, a E2E enabled matrix client for Emacs, inspired by telega A developer released ElNeo, an end-to-end-encrypted Matrix chat client for Emacs built on a daemon that speaks JSON to Emacs, modeled on the telega approach of pairing mature libraries with an editor front end. The project began about a year ago as a proof of concept for the E2E encryption components before a full chat client was built on top, and the developer says they recently made it their only client on most devices. The developer used an LLM to write tests as a baseline before splitting the code out of their .emacs.d configuration and renaming it, and reports remaining minor breakage tied to that config after a week of testing. About a year ago I was wondering how hard it'd be to build an e2e enabled emacs matrix client similar to how telega does things: use mature libraries to build a daemon that speaks JSON to emacs. I did a proof of concept for the e2e bits, and over time built a chat client on top. I recently switched to it as my only client on most devices - and thought maybe it's time to give it a better name than "matrix", and cut it out of my .emacs.d it was developed in. So I asked an LLM to write tests for everything to have a sensible baseline, split it out, and renamed everything. There probably is still a bit of breakage linking back to my config, but I'm relatively confident all major issues got fixed over the last week of testing.
