Hello, Caffold is an open-source, self-hosted workspace for coding agents. You can continue the same work across desktop, foldable, tablet, and phone.
I started building it for myself in late June. It was initially only for Codex. I got a Galaxy Z Fold8 in early August and started using Caffold much more seriously. By late August, I had moved my existing Codex work into Caffold too. I've been doing all of my development work in Caffold since then. After about a month of that, it finally feels ready to share. For now, it supports the three agents I actually use day to day: Codex, Claude Code, and Grok.
The idea came from how my work had changed. Coding agents now write almost all of the code. I spend most of my time reading code and diffs, watching what the agents are doing, steer them when needed, and give the next instruction.
When I saw the upcoming Fold8, its unfolded screen looked large enough for this kind of work. I rarely need to type code myself. I often enter prompts by voice as well as with a keyboard. So I started wondering if a foldable could be my main interface for development rather than just a secondary device.
I also wanted to see how far I could go with the browser platform itself. The frontend is plain JavaScript and CSS. It uses Web Components and native ES modules. There is no TypeScript, React/Vue/Svelte, or bundler. (That doesn't mean I avoid external libraries entirely. I use things like xterm.js and pdf.js where they make sense.)
I'm also curious how many people will want to use foldables this way, especially now that devices like the iPhone Duo are coming too.
