Each skill is a SKILL.md file with descriptions and instructions that trigger Claude to apply the book's frameworks, like Build-Measure-Learn, when responding to relevant queries. The project aims to make book methodologies executable rather than summarized, and the author seeks feedback on its usefulness and which books to add next.", "body_md": "I've been experimenting with Claude Code skills and wondered whether they could be used to encode the frameworks from books I repeatedly apply at work.\n\nThe result is book-skills, an open-source collection of Claude Code skills where each skill represents a book (The Lean Startup, High Output Management, The Pragmatic Programmer, etc.).\n\nThe goal isn't to summarize books. It's to make their methodologies executable.\n\nFor example, after installing the Lean Startup skill, asking Claude something like:\n\n> \"How should I validate this idea before building it?\"\n\nis enough for Claude to structure its response around Build-Measure-Learn, MVPs, validated learning, actionable metrics, and pivot/persevere decisions. There's no need to explicitly mention the book or ask Claude to use that framework.\n\nEach skill is just a `SKILL.md` file with:\n\n- a description containing the concepts that trigger the skill\n\n- the actionable ideas from the book\n\n- instructions describing how Claude should apply those ideas\n\nI'd love feedback on two things:\n\n1. Is this a useful way of reusing methodologies you already rely on?\n\n2. Which books would you turn into skills?\n\nRepository:\n\n[https://github.com/DamiMartinez/book-skills](https://github.com/DamiMartinez/book-skills)\n\nComments URL: [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49157403](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49157403)\n\nPoints: 1\n\n# Comments: 0", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/show-hn-book-skills-agent-skills-distilled-from-mgmt-and-programming-books", "canonical_source": "https://github.com/DamiMartinez/book-skills", "published_at": "2026-08-03 15:51:09+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-08-03 15:52:25.747595+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["ai-tools", "developer-tools", "generative-ai"], "entities": ["DamiMartinez", "Claude Code", "book-skills", "The Lean Startup", "High Output Management", "The Pragmatic Programmer"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/show-hn-book-skills-agent-skills-distilled-from-mgmt-and-programming-books", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/show-hn-book-skills-agent-skills-distilled-from-mgmt-and-programming-books.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/show-hn-book-skills-agent-skills-distilled-from-mgmt-and-programming-books.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/show-hn-book-skills-agent-skills-distilled-from-mgmt-and-programming-books.jsonld"}}
