Shopify lets shoppers connect more AI agents to its catalog and Shop Pay Shopify announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 that it is opening its product catalog of more than a billion listings to a wider range of AI agents, letting shoppers connect an agent to a Shop account, search listings, apply rules such as spending limits and shipping preferences, and check out via Shop Pay. The buyer-approved flow requires approval for each purchase, and merchants can remove Shopify Catalog access for individual channels such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, disable automatic enrollment in new agentic storefronts, and manage direct checkout by channel, though opting out of Shopify Catalog does not prevent ordinary web crawling. Shopify's developer documentation describes a broader Universal Commerce Protocol flow in which agents authenticate, search products, build carts, create checkouts and either hand the shopper to the merchant or complete checkout when the agent has a higher trust tier.
