Wiener, who previously voted for a deepfake ban, faces accusations of hypocrisy as the race to replace Pelosi intensifies.", "body_md": "# Scott Wiener’s chatbot hypocrisy — just his latest misfortune\n\nSee more of our coverage in your search results.\n\n[Add The California Post on Google](https://www.google.com/preferences/source?q=nypost.com)\n\nScott Wiener [has taken down a “sexist” and “racist” chatbot](https://nypost.com/2026/08/09/us-news/scott-wiener-pulls-ai-chatbot-parody-of-rival-connie-chan-after-backlash/) that he used to ridicule his opponent for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat, [Connie Chan](https://nypost.com/2026/08/05/us-news/nancy-pelosis-pick-for-congress-skewered-by-ai-chatbot/).\n\nWiener tried to use the chatbot to cast Chan as a “not in my backyard” (NIMBY) politician, who — he claimed — opposes every housing development.\n\nBy contrast, Wiener wants to build more housing — at least, that’s how he puts it.\n\nCritics say that Wiener’s recent housing bill, SB 79, will put high-rises near bus stops and train stations.\n\nThat’s the kind of housing Californian’s *don’t* want, especially because few people live in places as crowded as San Francisco, and even fewer want to depend on buses and trains. Even in dense SF, public transportation is struggling to maintain ridership levels.\n\nChan and Pelosi [said that the ad was sexist and racist,](https://nypost.com/2026/08/08/us-news/nancy-pelosi-rages-at-sexist-and-racist-ai-chatbot-mocking-her-would-be-successor/) because it put words in the mouth of a woman of color.\n\nRegardless of thorny questions of gender or race, the idea of [using an AI chatbot to mock your opponent](https://nypost.com/2026/08/05/us-news/nancy-pelosis-pick-for-congress-skewered-by-ai-chatbot/) doesn’t sit well with voters who have strong misgivings about artificial intelligence.\n\nIronically, [Wiener voted for AB 2839](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billVotesClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB2839), the bill that banned “deepfake” videos of politicians before and after elections (and was later struck down by a federal court because it violated the First Amendment).\n\nSo he is a hypocrite, whether or not you think he is also a bigot.\n\nThe chatbot fiasco is just the latest misfortune for Wiener as the race to replace Pelosi heats up.\n\nEarlier, in the primary, Wiener — who has long been the target of antisemitic protests — [gave in to the radicals](https://nypost.com/2026/07/16/us-news/scott-wiener-cashes-in-after-humiliating-video-being-chased-from-san-francisco-trans-march/) and called the recent Gaza war a “genocide,” which it was not.\n\nWiener flip-flopped on Israel — the only country in the Middle East that honors LGBTQ+ rights, which is Wiener’s core issue.\n\nHe turned on the Jewish state because he was afraid of the left-wing activists supporting his opponents.
