Flemish IT service provider Savaco is launching Windchill PLM Buddy, an AI layer that links product data from Windchill directly to Copilot. This makes it possible to quickly access complex product information using simple natural language questions.
In many industrial companies, the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system is the central source for product data and processes. Yet many users find looking up information in systems like PTC Windchill cumbersome, especially if they do not work with it daily. This leads to lost time and extra pressure on engineering teams. With the rise of AI chatbots such as Microsoft Copilot, there is a growing demand for more intuitive ways of unlocking corporate data.
AI chat links PLM data to Copilot #
Windchill PLM Buddy retrieves relevant data from the PLM system via existing APIs, based on questions users ask Copilot. This can concern the structure of a product, released parts, or recent changes since the last release. In addition to requesting information, users can also take actions, such as creating or updating problem reports and change notices, all without having to open the PLM interface.
According to Savaco, full control over product data is maintained. Existing access rights, security, and governance rules in Windchill also apply to the AI integration. Users only see the data they are authorized to access, and sensitive information remains within the organization’s secure environment.
Immediately deployable functionalities #
Windchill PLM Buddy is equipped as standard with functionalities such as querying BOMs, product structures, and metadata, requesting part statuses, and creating problem reports and change notices. Furthermore, organizations can extend the tool with additional actions within Windchill, or establish links with other systems such as ERP or CRM, depending on their own needs.
