The one-year-old Missionforce platform gets a major upgrade, bringing frontier AI to federal agencies through a secure, compliance-first architecture.
Salesforce is bringing OpenAI’s frontier models into federal government operations, announcing on September 16, 2026, that it will integrate those models directly into its Missionforce platform. The rollout runs through Salesforce Government Cloud and Amazon Bedrock, giving authorized government personnel secure access to advanced AI capabilities without the usual compromise between power and compliance.
For context, Missionforce turned one year old this September, having launched in September 2025.
What the integration actually does #
The centerpiece of the announcement is the Missionforce Policy Engine, which takes static policy documents and converts them into structured, executable rules subject to human review before anything gets acted on.
Beyond the policy engine, the integration enables AI agents to reason across mission-specific data and execute multistep workflows autonomously.
Authorized personnel will also be able to access Missionforce applications directly through ChatGPT, querying and interacting with mission-critical apps through a conversational interface rather than navigating a separate government portal.

Salesforce emphasizes that agencies retain full control over model selection, data governance, and deployment configuration. The platform is built to accommodate air-gapped environments, meaning systems physically isolated from the public internet, which is a hard requirement for certain classified and defense-adjacent use cases.
The partnerships backing the push #
Salesforce also announced a concurrent partnership with NVIDIA, aimed at bringing accelerated computing into the same government AI stack to speed up computationally heavy tasks that frontier model inference requires.
On OpenAI’s side, the company has separately expanded its partnership agreements with the U.S. government through the General Services Administration, providing a procurement pathway that federal agencies can use for the OpenAI-Salesforce integration.
Why this moment matters for government AI #
Salesforce’s public sector business has been on a strong growth trajectory. The company previously secured a $5.6 billion U.S. Army IDIQ contract, an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity vehicle that allows the Army to place task orders against a pre-negotiated ceiling over time.
Missionforce previously secured FedRAMP High authorization for its Agentforce and related products. The platform has seen adoption by government agencies and military branches for tasks including benefits processing, human resources support, procurement, and citizen services.
