DOVER, DELAWARE, USA – June 17, 2026 — The Rust Foundation, the nonprofit steward of the Rust programming language, today announced that OpenAI, a leading AI research and deployment company, has joined the organization as a Platinum Member and will contribute a total of $600,000 through the Rust Foundation, including its membership and additional support for maintainer efforts across the Rust language ecosystem. This commitment reflects a shared goal of strengthening the Rust ecosystem through sustained support for maintainers, technical priorities, and critical projects.
OpenAI’s additional contribution will support a broad range of initiatives across the Rust Foundation’s programs, including Rust Project Goals, the Foundation’s Rust Innovation Lab, and emerging efforts to provide direct, structured support for the maintainers of widely depended-upon projects across the Rust ecosystem. The investment reflects OpenAI’s commitment to sustaining the open source maintainers and infrastructure underpinning modern software.
