Ruby Association Activity Report 2026: Matz, Fastly, and Ruby Grant Projects Take the Stage

July 27, 2026 The Ruby Association has announced the Ruby Association Activity Report 2026 , an in-person event that will showcase recent developments across the Ruby ecosystem, including keynote presentations, invited talks, and the results of the Association’s 2025 development grant program. The event will take place on August 4, 2026 , in Tokyo, Japan . Matz to Deliver the Keynote Ruby creator Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto will open the event with a keynote titled “Extreme Vibe Coding.” While the Ruby Association has not published an abstract for the session, the title suggests it may explore modern software development practices and AI-assisted programming. Invited Talk from Fastly The invited talk will be presented by Kazuho Oku , Senior Principal OSS Developer at Fastly and the lead developer of the H2O HTTP server. His session, “Rapid Start: Challenges in Accelerating the Internet and the Happy Division of Labor Between Ruby and AI,” will focus on web performance, internet technologies, and the complementary roles of Ruby and AI. Ruby Association Development Grant Projects The event will also feature presentations from three projects selected through the Ruby Association’s 2025 development grant program. Pure Ruby Apache Arrow Implementation Kouhei Sutou ClearCode will present a pure Ruby implementation of Apache Arrow and discuss its practical applications. Lightweight Information LSP SIM SANGYONG STORES will introduce a lightweight implementation of the Language Server Protocol LSP , aimed at improving developer tooling. TutorialKit.rb Albert Pazderin Evil Martians will present TutorialKit.rb , a project that enables interactive Ruby tutorials running entirely in the browser.
