Following this week’s ruling by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of Thomson Reuters in its long-running copyright battle against the now-shuttered AI legal research company ROSS Intelligence, ROSS says it will seek review in the Supreme Court.
Yar Chaikovsky, partner at White & Case, issued a statement on behalf of ROSS disagreeing with the ruling and promising an appeal.
“We respectfully disagree with the Third Circuit’s decision and believe it creates continued uncertainty around the application of copyright law to AI model training,” he said. “We intend to seek review by the Supreme Court to obtain much-needed clarity on these issues, which carry significant implications for innovation and the development of AI technologies.”
